Winter 2005 A Look at the Latest
Trends
In January,
Burrows’ buyers traveled to New York City
to look at the Fall 2006 collections. Our fashion-buying
experts examined new labels and visited the showrooms
of some of the best European design houses to expand
the presence of key labels at Burrows this Fall.
Our first stop was the New York Collective,
the premier menswear show in the United States, where
we viewed menswear collections from around the globe
– countries like Italy, Germany, Denmark, the
USA and Spain. We attend these shows to keep up-to-date
with current fashion trends and find exciting new designers
who fit the Burrows style, as well as prepare our buys
for the next season.
We chose a new design label to showcase
at Burrows for Fall 2006 - the Robert Comstock collection.
Fashion writers described Comstock’s previous
designs in leather, wool and denim as “masculine
and luxurious. Highlights were buttery soft Austrian
deer jackets with horn buttons and suave shirt jackets
in olive or tan New Zealand baby lamb and black calf
nubuck.”
Burrows customers might associate the
Robert Comstock label with active sportswear and casual
outerwear collections, but the line has evolved and
is recognized for elegant work in leather and upscale
sportswear featuring the finest suede and leather, premium
cashmeres, merino wools, and exotics such as baby alpaca
and angora blends. Each garment is made in Italy by
expert craftspeople and all styles are Robert Comstock
originals - each garment is even hand-signed and numbered,
just like a work of art!
While in New York, we had the pleasure
to work the line with Robert Comstock himself. With
a reputation as the world's foremost designer of leather
clothing and outerwear, he uses the softest suede and
chooses leather that is both durable and comfortable
to wear in any conditions – that’s why we’re
so excited to house the men’s signature leather
collection for next Fall!
The Burrows buying team also visited Burberry’s
New York showroom. One look at this line told us we
needed to bring more Burberry items to Burrows’
customers. This Fall, look for our most extensive collection
of Burberry, including outerwear, vests, dress shirts,
sports shirts, cufflinks and umbrellas. And, of course,
the collection wouldn’t be complete without luxurious
cashmere Burberry scarves!
At the Seal Kay showroom in NYC, we saw
a lot of new denim and cotton washes from the artisan
collection, incorporating updated styles and body fits.
Look for our largest selection of Italian-made Seal
Kay this Fall, too – exciting news for jeans lovers
who appreciate great fit and unique style!
Our final destination was the Ted Baker
showroom on Park Avenue. The London-based fashion house
provided us with a wonderful selection of pieces to
choose from. We selected a very unique and colourful
sport shirt collection, complemented with great sweater
styles, colours and fabrications. Ted Baker sweaters
come in 1⁄4 zip, V-neck, full zip and hooded styles
– they make it easy to enjoy cold weather looking
great in comfortable, stylish clothes.
Wandering through designer collections
and sitting in on New York fashion shows gave the Burrows
team an inside look at some exciting new trends. So,
come on in and visit – we’ll show you our
fabulous Spring collection and give you the inside track
on what to expect later this year.
